Christoforos Papakaliatis is an actor, director, and screenwriter. He was born and raised in Athens.
Christoforos Papakaliatis always manages to get the best reviews for his series and his performances and this year “Maestro” managed to break every record and even became the first Greek series to be on Netflix. He is a very successful actor, writer and director, who has proven that every time, whatever project he takes on, he will always get it done and make a great impression.
When he was 16 years old, Christoforos Papakaliatis sent his resume to an advertisement looking for actors. After passing the casting he managed to get his first role and since then he followed a brilliant career in acting and one success after another. His participation in the series “The Unacceptable” was to give him the impetus for the world to get to know him and build his career thereafter. Slowly he became very sought after and participated in very well known and successful series. Some of the most famous ones are: “Ten Little Kids”, “Anastasia”, “Anatomy of a Crime” and “Touch of a Soul”.
At the same time, in 1999, Christoforos Papakaliatis took the decision to start writing his own scripts and the success of his first series entitled “Our Life a Ride” gave him the opportunity to develop his talent and many more followed which were always a huge success. Some of the best-known are: “Take Care of Me”, “Three Wishes”, “Two Days Only” and “Maestro”.
Initial apparitions in teen-oriented television programs
Following his appearance in The Unacceptable, he went on to guest star in four different programs during the 1992-1993 season. In particular, he is known for his role as a major cast member in the television series The Guards of Achaia. He also appeared in the television series Women and Kostis Palamas. At the same time, he was playing one of the leading parts in the satirical television series Ten Little Mittsoi, which was created by Lakis Lazopoulos and ran until the year 2001.
1993-1999
During the 1993–1994 season, he had a recurring role in Mega’s drama series Anastasia, which was created by Mirella Papaikonomou and was aired at the time.
In 1994, she appeared in one episode of the police drama You Decide as well as two episodes of the crime drama Anatomy of a Crime, both of which were directed by Panos Kokkinopoulos. During the 1996–1997 season, he had starring roles in two different television series. The first was the drama series Vammenos Helios, which aired on ANT1, and the second was the second iteration of the series Dolce Vita.
After this, in the 1998–1999 season, Manousos Manousakis premiered his series Touch of Soul, in which he appeared alongside Stavros Zalmas, Theofania Papathomas, Elena Nathaniel, Yannis Voglis, and Dimitra Matsouka, amongst other actors.
1999–2010: writing and directing for television programs
In 1999, he made the decision to strike out on his own and begin producing his own television shows. As a result, at the age of 24, he penned his first screenplay, which was titled Our life is a ride, and was aired on Mega Channel. According to what he has stated in an interview, “the original agreement was for 14 pilot episodes; however, due to the response, he was asked by Mega to make 24.”
Alongside Filareti Komninu, Demosthenes Papadopoulos, Haris Asimakopoulos, and Gogo Brembou, he appeared in this first series.
The favorable reception of his initial work for television served as the impetus for a string of subsequent television productions that bore his imprint. After this, the drama series Be cautious with me premiered on Mega for the season 2000-2001. You can watch it there. The controversy surrounding the love of two siblings for the same woman served as the driving force behind the plot of the series, which kept viewers interested. He then followed it up in 2002 with a television movie titled Three Wishes, which he had written the screenplay for. It was broadcast on Mega, and he starred in it alongside Haris Asimakopoulos, Alexandros Bourdoumis, and Marilita Lampropoulou. Following the conclusion of the series, he appeared in a television movie titled Three Wishes, which was written by him and directed by Haris Asimakopoulos. Close your eyes was a critically acclaimed television show that ran on ABC from 2002 to 2004 and was created by Papakaliatis. A mother and her daughter’s love for the same guy was portrayed in this television series. He directed the second and third episodes of the Close your eyes series, which was his first attempt at directing a film or television production.
He took a break from television for the 2004-2005 season and came back with the show Two Days Only for the 2005-2006 season. He penned the script for his fifth series, which was titled 4, during the 2009-2010 season.
In 2012, he stated that he had become conscious of the “discount” of commercial television series producers and had consequently turned to film, which was his great love. He said that he had turned to film because the film was his great love.
2011-today: beginnings of a vacation in film and on the international stage
At the Britannia Theatre in 2011, under the direction of Dimitris Lignadis, he gave a performance in the character of Amadeus Mozart in the play Amadeus. The program was picked up for a second season as a direct result of the popularity of the first. In the interim, he was working on his next screenwriting stage, which took place this time in the movie theater.
An… was the title of his debut feature picture, which debuted around the holiday season of 2012. Over half a million people saw the movie over the course of more than three and a half months.
Worlds Apart was his second feature film, which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. It had its premiere over the holiday season of 2015 in the United Kingdom. The movie made a total of 4.5 million euros, was hailed as the greatest triumph at the box office in Greece over the course of the previous ten years and was also shown in other countries in 2017. For the purpose of promoting the film, Papakaliatis visited more than 15 cities in Greece (as part of a Q&A), as well as communities outside of Greece. (at various premieres of the film).
In the 2017 animated feature The Lego Batman Movie, which was distributed by Tanweer, he lent his voice to the character of Batman. In the animated movie The Lego Batman Movie, which was released in 2017, he provided the vocal acting for Batman. Tanweer was the distributor of this movie.
After being absent from Greek television for the past 11 years, he has just created a new social series that has been broadcasted on MEGA in the 2022 season under the title Maestro and in March of 2023 it has been available worldwide on Netflix with the official name Maestro in Blue. In the series he plays the role of Orestis.
